Request deletion
Data that is deleted
When the request is completed, we delete or remove personal details from:
- Your name, email address, phone number, password, and address
- Contacts you uploaded, and matching records tied to your account
- Messages you sent, call records, and recordings
- Survey and identification answers you submitted
- Support messages, notification tokens, and photos stored for your account
- Personal details on prize redemptions and volunteer signups tied to your account
You can use the same email address and phone number to create a new United New York account after deletion.
Data that is kept, and for how long
- Deactivated account record. We keep a record with your name, email, phone, address, and password removed, so related records can still be stored. It cannot be used to sign in.
- Text opt-outs. If a phone number replied STOP or otherwise opted out of texts, we keep that number so we do not text it again. We keep it for as long as United New York sends texts for that program.
- Partner payout records. Records of a completed partner payout stay, and they refer only to the deactivated account. They do not include your name, email, or phone. We keep them for as long as tax, payment, or campaign record duties require.
- Survey records tied to a payout. If a survey answer is part of a completed partner payout, that record stays and any free-text answer is removed. We keep it for the same period as the payout record.
- Security, fraud, and legal records. We keep records needed for security, fraud prevention, legal claims, or tax and campaign duties for as long as those duties require. They are not used to restore your account or to contact you.
When deletion happens
- In the United New York app, deletion is completed when you confirm it.
- Requests sent from this page or by email are completed within 30 days after we verify them.
- Opt-out numbers and records required for legal, tax, payment, or security duties are kept for the periods above. Other personal data listed under “Data that is deleted” is removed when the request is completed, and is not kept for an extra period after that.
Questions about this request can go to support@unitednewyork.org. Our Privacy Policy describes the same deletion process.
